What He Used to Be

Fumiya Nishiguchi's six scoreless innings and Hisashi Takayama's two home runs gave Lions a win against Buffaloes 6 - 1 last night.

The first start since July 1st, Nishiguchi (2-2) gave up just three base runners. His slider was so sharp that he fanned seven. In the second inning he struck out three Buffaloes he faced. The best thing about him last night was that his rythm. His tempo was really fast that the speed of the game was comfortable for everyone. It looked like his ace type form was returned to him.

Before the game, I didn't expect much from him. I liked his career. I wished he would pitch a good game; but, I just thought it wouldn't happen. He was the ace of the Lions from the mid 90's to mid 2000's; however, his struggles for last few years made funs and the organization to lose confidence in him. He is 37 years old now. I hoped I was wrong; yet, it seemd like he would be near to the end of his brilliant career. But the last night, he pitched like what he used to be. That's great feeling.

WOW!! Did You See That!?

I've never seen such a big foul ball, which was hit by Buffaloes' Alex Cabrera off Kazuyuki Hoashi in the 2nd inning. When he hit one, entire ballpark became silent. He hit it out of the Seibu Dome. Because it went to so far away and so hi, many people don't realize what was going on. Cabrera believed it was homerun, Lions players thought it was foul ball. The funny thing was the umps weren't sure what it was. After they watched the video, they decided that it was foul ball. To decide whether homerun or not, they took almost 10 minutes (at least that's what I felt).

This delay cost Hoashi's rythm of the pitching. Even though he gave up only 2 runs(one earned) and fanned six, he threw 115 pitches and lasted only for 6 innings.

As always, fans in the dome went to crasy when Kimiyasu Kudoh went to the pitching mound from the bullpen. Even though he gave up two base runners, he finished the night with the three strike outs. By the way the Lions defeated the Buffaloes 8 -3.

Tomotaka Sakaguchi, Buffaloes' center fielder, is worth to watch. His hitting, running, and defense are just amazing (I'm not sure about his throwing arm 'cause I've never had a chance to see it). Especially his speed for baserunning and defense is the first class. I could see that last night. His hustle, I mean his mental side of the game is as great as his physical ability.

"Is This Love?" By Bonnie Pink

I love airports. I love anykinds of them. I love spending time there. I can have fan all the time there. I can eat great foods there. I can shop there. I just love there.

I went to Hokkaido last weekend. While I was waiting my flight at Haneda, I watched some Japanese music TV. That was the first time I listened "Is This Love?" by Bonnie Pink. I like it. I downloaded it through iTunes. I don't know why they have only released it through degital format at this moment; however, it is good song. One problem I have now is that I cannot get lyrics of this song in any way.

先週末北海道に行ってきました。羽田のゲートでフライトを待っている時に音楽専門チャンネルのランキングをやってたので見てました。Bonnie PinkのIs This Love?という曲をこの時初めて聞いて気にいったので、東京に戻ってから早速iTunesからダウンロードしました。現在この曲はデジタル配信のみだそうですが、きちんとした歌詞がネットで探しても見つからないのが残念でなりません。けど、素敵な曲ですよ。

Swallows 1-0 BayStars

At the Jingu Stadium with the little attendance of 8,982, tonight's pitching match up between Tony Barnette of the Swallows and Hayato Terahara of the BayStars was really great. Alaska born Barnette got his first win in Japan with 7 shutout innings. He fanned 11 while giving up 3 hits and walking 3. In the 7th inning, he struck out two hitters in a row when one out and the bases a loaded situation. His running was also impressive, when he hit the routine ground ball to second. Terahara gave up just 1 run in 6 strong innings; but, he got the loss. Ryouji Aikawa's RBI double in the 3rd inning was the only run of the game. Tonight's outfielders of the BayStars was not that good defensively. That run could have been avoided. The drama of the 9th inning, what I meant by is the throwing error by Aikawa, made this game more exciting. This game was just 2 hours 38 minutes.

今夜のたった８，９８２人しか入らなかった神宮球場におけるスワローズ対横浜の試合は見応えのある投手戦になりました。スワローズの先発はアラスカ生まれのバーネット。横浜は寺原でした。バーネットは７回を投げ３被安打、３四球、１１奪三振で無失点の力投で来日初勝利。７回表の１死満塁からの２者連続三振は圧巻でした。また、２回裏の打席では平凡なセカンドゴロを打つと一塁まで全力疾走。一方の寺原も６回１失点と好投したものの、味方が零封されたので１－０で負け投手になりました。３回に飛び出した相川の２塁打で１点を取り勝ったものの、横浜の外野の守備がもう少し良ければ一塁ランナーが本塁に帰ってくる事はなかったですね。９回の相川の送球エラーはこの試合の最大の見せ場の一つでした。この試合は色々なドラマがあったもののわずか２時間３８分で終わりました。

Sprained my Left Ankle

I will run for the 2nd Shimanto-gawa(Shimanto River) Sakura (cherryblossom) Marathon in Kubokawa(Shimanto Town) of Kochi Prefecture on April 4th. When I tried to move from the sidewalkt to the road way to run for just few meters while I was running, I failed to land my foot on the road. As a result, I sprained my left ankle. One of my colleague told me to just cold my left ankle with ice; so, I did it. It feels much better now.

４月４日に高知県窪川町（現：四万十町）である第２回四万十川桜マラソンに参加する為に調整中ですが、車道でホンの数メートル走ろうと歩道から移った時に着地に失敗し足首を痛めました。同僚にとにかく患部を冷やすように言われたので、その通りにしてみたらかなり痛みが引いてきました。

A Confession of Jim Parque

Jim Parque,　former Chicago Whit Sox pitcher, wrote a confession of his use of HGH at Chicago Sun-Times. I respect him for admitting what he has done wrong in the past when he just can deny the allegations. One more thing what I really respect about him is his apology to White Sox GM Ken Williams. It's huge.

元ホワイト・ソックス投手のジム・パーケが自分のHGH使用を認めました。その中で、ホワイト・ソックスGMのケン・ウィリアムスに対し自分の過去の態度を謝罪していました。このご時世で、HGH使用を認めたのも偉いですが、必要もないのにウィリアムスに対しても謝罪を表明するなんて偉いなぁと思いました。

The Wall is High

Tokyo Verdy lost the much against Ventforet Kofe 2-1. Although Masashi Oguro scored a goal, Kofe's defense was really tough. Verdy offense couldn't kick shoots as much as they used to do for past few months. Top 4 teams of division 2 are really tough to beat not because their offense but their defense. It was like they are higher walls than rest of the division 2 teams.

Yukio Tsuchiya, the soul of Verdy defense, got hurt his knee in the first half. After he was pulled the game at the end of the 1st half, Verdy defense got weak. I don't know how bad his knee is at this point; but, I hope he will be back for the next game. Or, we would face a huge problem.

The game itself was pretty good; but, only 5,909 people showed up the Ajinomoto Stadium last night.

壁が高いなぁ。甲府が強いのもあるでしょうが、土屋を怪我で試合途中に失ったヴェルデイはおもしろいように失点を重ねてしまいました。

Verdy will have a match against Ventforet Kofe Tomorrow Night

19:00 tomorrow night at Ajinomoto Stadium, Tokyo Verdy will have a crucial game for them against Ventforet Kofe. Top three teams from the J-League Division 2 of this season will be promoted to Division 1. At this point, Verdy is in the 5th place of the division with 49 points and Kofe is in the 4th place with 53 points. Vegalta Sendai, the 3rd in the division, has just 54 points.

So, we really need to win this much against Kofe tommorow night in order to keep trailing the top three teams of the division.

Tokyo Verdy won against Tokushima Vortis

Last Saturday night at Kokuritsu Kyougijyou(the National Olympic Stadium), Tokyo Verdy defeated Tokushima Vortis 4-0. Masashi Oguro had two goals. Hiroki Kawano and Kazuki Hiramoto had one goal each. Vortis' 19 years old MF Yoichiro Kakitani was the man to watch in this game according to the media; however, another 19 years old Kawano stole the show with a goal.

I was impreseed by the both teams because they had three games in a week with two days rest between those games. It was third game for both teams that night; but, they moved pretty good. It was really fun game. Oguro played really hard and fast, and Tokushima's difence was great even after their defender Kentoku Noborio got ejected at 49 minutes. I was amazed by their motivations to play.

6,923 people showed up for this much, almost 2,000 more than last Verdy's Home game at Ajinomoto. This number tells me something. I believe it is the time for J-League to allow Verdy to call Kokuritsu its permanent home. Ajinomoto is not for Verdy; Kokuritsu is.

Tokyo Verdy defeated Ehime F.C.

Tokyo Verdy won the game against Ehime F.C. 2-0 at Ajinomoto Stadium. 17 years old defender Shohei Takahashi scored a goal just two minutes affter the game started. Even though J-2, Verdy has played really good ball game. Masashi Oguro & Leandro, both forwards of Verdy, are worth to watch. They are better than some J-1 clubs' forwards.

S-Pulse @ F.C.Tokyo

Yuichiro Nagai of the Shimizu S-Pulse was born and raised in Toyama Hights, Shinjuku, where I was born and raised in. He was graduated from the same elementary school I graduated from, Higashi Toyama Elementary School(東戸山小）. To me, he is the hero from my hometown.
Last saturday, his S-pulse came to Kokuritsu Kyougijyou(the National Olympic Stadium) at Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku. However, Mr. Nagai has been injured. He was not on the active roster for that game. I was kind of disappointed because I was so excited to see his return to his home .

F.C.Tokyo won the game against the S-pulse 2-1.

プライド・オブ・戸山ハイツ、キング・オブ・東戸山の永井雄一郎君を見ようと思って地元凱旋試合の行われた国立霞ヶ丘競技場での清水エスパルス対東京ガスに行ってきましたが、試合はおろかベンチにも入っていませんでした。あーあ。

Hanshin Tigers Lost the Game against Swallows, Again

At Jingu Stadium, Shohei Tateyama gave up four hits in eight innings and marked his winning streak at 10 since last August. When Swallows' Chang Yong Lim closed the game for his 13th save of the season, the score was Swallows 4 and Tigers 1. Tateyama(4-0) struck out just five Tigers that night, few numbers per game for him; but, he allowed just one run over those innings to get a win. He was not good at his control, surrendered four walks; however, Tigers' horrible offense could not give enough support for their starter Shinobu Fukuhara. Fukuhara(2-3) pitched five and plus strong innings, but he gave up two homeruns and got a loss.

館山は制球に苦しみ、むしろ福原の方が良いくらいでした。しかし、阪神のまずい攻めが多々ありスワローズが勝ちました。スワローズの林は完璧な抑えで１３セーブ目。

StarFlyer

When I made a trip to Kitakyusyu, I used StarFlyer. It is an airline based in Kitakyusyu, Fukuoka. Their Airbus A320 is painted in black, which is really cool & elegant. Airbus A320 can have around 180 people in the cabin; however, StarFlyer's have only 144 seats per airplane. That means its leather seat has wider legroom than usual economy seat from the most of airlines. Their economy seats are better than others.

I had a cup of coffee during the flight. That was the best coffee I have ever had. According to them, you can drink that cup of Tully's coffee only on the StarFlyer flights.

I didn't have any plan for where to go for this trip, other than Fukuoka Yahoo! Japan Dome. I picked up a on-board magazine, which led me to Idemitsu Museum and others. That StarFlyer/GQ magazine helped my trip in Kitakyusyu. They also give me a free magazine from the City of Kitakyusyu.

By the way, I took 9:00 p.m. flight for returning to Tokyo. During the airplane's departure from the Kitakyusyu airport, I was thinking when it would take off. I knew it was running on the runway. I felt it was too long to run on it. I didn't see anything from the window because it's middle of the night. I was wrong. The fleet was already in the sky when I was thinking it would be running on the runway. I just didn't realize it already took off.

北九州をベースにしているスターフライヤーは、黒に塗られたすごくかっこいいエアバス・３２０を使っています。この機体はだいたい１８０人乗りの構成ですが、スターフライヤーでは１４４人乗りにしています。ということは、革張りの座席とその座席間隔が非常にゆったりしていてくつろげるフライトです。機内で提供されたチョコレートとこの飛行機限定のタリーズコーヒーがとてもおいしく、お洒落な旅を演出してくれます。

Georges Rouault @ Idemitsu Museum of Arts, Moji

I went to Kitakyusyu; because, I wanted to board on a cool Star Flyer airplane. Star Flyer has operated the service from Haneda to Kitakyusyu; so, I had booked a round trip flight between Haneda and Kitakyusyu.

Moji ward of Kitakyusyu city has Mojiko(Moji Port), which has Moji Retro. It is actually a tourist area. You can experience 1920's atmosphere from that area.

Idemitsu Kosan was originaly established at Moji in 1911. The company has had strong relationship with the city until when the headquarters moved to Tokyo in 1940. Sazo Idemitsu, founder of the Idemitsu Kosan, was an art collector also. You can see his collection at two Idemitsu Museums in Japan. I went to one of them at Moji. It has held the exhibition of George Rouault now. I had no information about Rouault prior to get there. When I saw one of his paintings, I thought the man on the painting was Chad Kroegar from the band Nickelback. The man, Rouault was drawing, was actually Jesus Christ. That was one of his collection called "Passion." His "Passion" series were amazing paintings. The show was huge surprise for me, since I didn't expect to see such a great art show.

You can also learn the history of Idemitsu Kosan(Sazo Idemitsu) at that museum. It is interesting history, and it has the exhibition of Rouault until June 14, 2009. Idemitsu Museum of Arts, Moji
スターフライヤーの飛行機ってかっこいいなと思っていたら乗りたくなったので, 北九州まで乗ってきました。北九州市には, 門司港レトロと呼ばれる観光地域があります。そこに元々は門司で創業を開始した出光興産のやっている出光美術館門司があります。この日は、ジョルジュ・ルオーの大回顧展をやっていましたが、知識がなかったのでニッケルバックのボーカルの顔の絵をたくさん描いてるなと最初は思いました。解説を読むと、“受難”というルオーの連作の宗教画で、描かれている顔はキリストでした。なるほど、感動的で心に響く深い作品群でした。こういう絵を収集して、安い料金で実際に鑑賞させてもらえるというのはありがたいなぁとつくづく思いました。ルオー大回顧展は２００９年６月１４日まで。この美術館では出光興産の歴史も学べます。

Hurting My Left Knee

I will run for the marathon in Shimanto Town of the Kochi Prefecture on April 5th this year. My left knee has been bothered me a lot lately. I have had major set back for my running practice. I have talked to a lot of people about this, and a trainer at a gym told me that I put too much weight on my left knee. He said my balance is not good. When I stand straight, my upper body obviously leanes toward to the left side. I need to fix my balance ASAP. Runner's World magazine and its website have helped me through this problem. I have learned I need to do a lot of hard work besides running if I want to run better. In order to do that, I need to manage my time more efficiently.

Lions against WBC JAPAN

John Wasdin of Saitama Seibu pitched three scoreless strong innings, and the hot hitting Lions defeated the Japan 7-2 at Tokyo Dome last night.

ライオンズが日本代表を７対２で倒しました。試合内容はライオンズの方が遥かに上でしたが、日本代表も心配する必要もない程度です。ただ、バファローズの小松などは投球回数があまりにも少ないので、４月からの公式戦に入るまでに彼にとって順調な調整になるのかどうかが見ていて気掛かりです。

"Love Love Love" by Tristan Prettyman

The sponsor for my favorite Japanese TV Show "MitoKomon" is Panasonic. This company has aired an ad with the song called "Love Love Love" by Tristan Prettyman. Even though the song was released in 2005( her debut album "twentythree"), they have used it for their TV commercial now. You can see it during this season. It's a beautiful song. Although I'm not 100% sure what the song wants to say, it's still good to me. It's a lovely song.

今シーズンの水戸黄門を見ていると、トリスタン・プリティマンのLove Love Loveという曲が使用されているパナソニックのCMに出逢います。２００５年の彼女のデビュー・アルバム“twentythree”に収録されている曲です。歌詞が何を言いたいのか僕には少し分からない所がありますが、大好きな歌です。とても素敵な歌です。

女経Jyokyo (A Woman's Testament)

The second episode, directed by Kon Ichikawa, from this 1960 Japanese Omnibus Classic Film called "Jyokyo" is the best movie ever made. It is so sexy that it is my most favorite movie. In order to make him buy a house near a beach, a mysterious widow seduced a popular writer (Eiji Funakoshi), who's escaping from his job because of its stress. Fujiko Yamamoto, who plays the woman in this film, is the most beautiful and sexy movie actress I have ever seen! Her great acting and beauty really hold its audience spellbound! Whenever you have an opportunity, please watch this film! This episode is that good!!

Jyokyo

“物を高く売りつける女”は、“女経”という1960年のオムニバス映画の中の2番目に出てくる市川崑監督の作品で、僕はこのエピソードが自分の一番好きな映画です。とてもセクシーな映画ですからね。この話は、船越英二扮する失踪中の流行作家三原靖が、謎の女に魅了されるというものです。何と言っても、謎の女を演じる山本富士子の演技と妖しい美しさが、この映画の最大の魅力です。この映画の中の山本富士子が映画史上最も美しくセクシーな女優だと思います。また、この作品を撮った市川監督は天才です。この映画のDVDがやっと発売されましたので、チャンスがあれば、ぜひ見てみて下さい。ホント素敵な映画ですから！

Omotesando Niigata-Kan N'ESPACE 表参道・新潟館

When you think about Omotesando/Harajuku area, you may think about cool places. For example, night clubs, bars, restaurants, and expensive stores. Since Omotesando Hills were opened, Omotesando has become the hottest place in Tokyo. When I think about Omotesando, I think about Niigata Prefecture. Right behind of Omotesando Hills, there's Niigata's Antenna shop "Omotesando Niigata-Kan N'ESPACE." The 1st floor of the shop is selling Niigata's foods and special products. The B1 floor is their reastaurant "Syoku Raku En." It is really good restaurant with Omotesando/Minami Aoyama atomosphere. I've only been there for lunches; but, the restaurant has a really good mood in there. The Entire room is lighted really sofetly with Jazz music. It is really good for a date.

Anyway, the Niigata born ingredients are used for the foods in there. I had a Pork Hamburg Lunch(Mochi Buta Hamburg Zen) . The pork, which is really great, is from Niigata. The pork's called Echigo Mochi buta. I drank a litlle bit of Koshi no Kagetora(Sake). As I said earlier, Niigata is really famous for sake. Sake is made from Rice. Many people admit that Niigata has the best brands in rice. That may be the reason their 100% rice sake is really fruity. I also ordered a bottle of Echigo beer, Niigata's Local brand beer, too. I really feel happy when I can eat and drink local brands in a restaurant like Syoku Raku En. I was really happy when I found the Niigata brand beer in the menu.

地下には、レストラン食楽園があります。食楽園は新潟の食材を使ったものを食べさせてくれます。ランチにしか行った事がないのですが、とってもお洒落なお店です。ジャズが流れる店内の照明は落としぎみで、とっても表参道・南青山な雰囲気を醸し出しています。デートにとっても良い所だと思います。
さて、自分が頼んだのはもち豚ハンバーグ膳。新潟名産の越後もち豚がとってもおいしいです。越後ビールの有機栽培プレミアムを一本頼み、越の影虎特別純米酒を少し味わいました。地元の食材はもちろん、地ビールとか地酒とかが食楽園のようなレストランで楽しめるのはありがたいことですね。越後ビールをメニューで見つけたときは、ホントに幸せでした。
越後豆腐を使った越後豆腐ステーキ膳もヘルシーでとってもおいしいです。

Lunch at Hiroshima Yume Terrace Kansuitei 歓粋亭

Kansuitei IS my most favorite restaurant. It is located inside of Hiroshima Yume Terrace at Shinjuku Southern Terrace(near Shinjuku Station). Hiroshima Yume Terrace is Hiroshima Prefecture's Antenna Shop. Great place. I mean, really GREAT! I must tell you. I have nothing to do with that prefecture. I've never even been there; however, I've fallen in love with the taste of Hiroshima right after I ate at that restaurant. Their Hiroshima cuisine(food) is really great. I go there to eat at least once a month. I went there to eat lunch with six people yesterday. Their target's Hiroshima Oyster.
Kaki Furai Teisyoku(Fried Oyster Lunch) カキフライ定食
Hiroshima is famous for many sea foods. Their Oyster is really famous. All people, I went to with, ordered Kaki Furai Teisyoku(Fried Oyster Lunch). All of them says Hiroshima's Oyster's really great.
Hiroshima Okonomiyaki Ikaten Nose 広島風お好み焼きいか天のせ
I ordered Hiroshima Okonomiyaki Ikaten Nose. Okonommiyaki is another popular food from Hiroshima. This Okonomiyaki's really great too. I ordered a lunch beer too. I can order first lunch beer for a 100yen($1.00-) with one lunch. Kansuitei's beer is Kirin Ichiban Shibori; but, it's a special one. It IS brewed in Hiroshima!! That's amazing!! 歓粋亭が自分の一番好きなレストランですね。歓粋亭は広島県のアンテナショップ、広島ゆめてらすのレストランです。広島ゆめてらすは、新宿駅南口の前にある新宿サザンテラスにあります。自分はここが大好きなので、最低でも月に1回は行きます。ホントに素晴らしい所です。自分は広島県と何もかかわりは無いんですけどね。行ったこともないですし。けれど、歓粋亭で食事をした瞬間に広島県の味に恋しました。広島料理も広島の食材も最高です。
さて、今回は知人6人とランチに行ったのですが、その全員がカキフライ定食を注文し、おいしいおいしいと言いながら食べてました。自分は広島風お好み焼きいか天のせをおいしく頂きました。後、自分はキリン一番搾りを飲みました。ランチビールはランチ一つにつき最初の一杯が100円で飲めます。この一搾（one shiboと読む）がこの店で飲める特別なビールなんです。なんと、この一搾は広島県産なんです！！広島産に対するこの店のこだわりにはいつも感動します！！広島ゆめてらすおよび歓粋亭のウェブはhttp://www.pref.hiroshima.lg.jp/tokyo/index.htm　をチェックしてみてください。
